Here's what was decided on 10-10-07:

Because writing a bill on how the goose population should be handled is not practical, Surubhi, Natalia, and I decided to write a bill on how NOT to handle geese, making more inhumane (unethical) methods illegal. We would present the more acceptable alternatives currently being used to address the situation as well.

For now, Surubhi is researching common population control methods, and I am researching bills concerning geese in New Jersey, as I know killing geese is illegal in this state and results in a hefty fine.

The group will be getting back together for an update on the progress in a week or 2. More information to come..

I am currently working on the legislative bills that related to the animal population control in other states then NJ.
I found that Alaska has a bill in process, which requests to change birds (including geese) hunting season dates from september 1st to august due to the early migration of the majority birds population.
More will be discussed during our group meeting, which was planned on the 1st or 2nd week of November.

I am finding methods that are both humane and not humane. Some methods include different kinds of habitat modification, exclusion, harassment, chemical sprays and lethal control.

I found quite a few bills on the website provided by the legislators dating from 1998-2007, including alerts of the incoming overpopulation issue, proposals of control, hunting season extensions, etc. I saved them all as PDFs onto my thumb-drive, but haven't read or printed them yet. I'll have them ready for our next meeting. Natallia, Surubhi: when would you girls like to meet?
